Giới thiệu

Nghiên cứu của Harvey tập trung vào tương lai đô thị, khoa học đô thị dựa trên sự tham gia của công dân, hoạch định chính sách, cũng như mối quan hệ giữa tự nhiên và xã hội. Ông đã nhận được nhiều giải thưởng trong nghiên cứu và giảng dạy về phát triển đô thị bền vững, địa lý môi trường và lý thuyết xã hội khi còn là Phó Giáo sư Địa lý tại Đại học Quốc gia Singapore.

Harvey hiện là biên tập viên khu vực Đông Nam Á của các tạp chí Human Geography (Sage Publications) và Frontiers in Sustainable Cities: Cities in the Global South. Ông cũng tham gia Hội đồng Cố vấn Quốc tế của bộ sách Geographies of Justice and Social Transformation (xuất bản bởi University of Georgia Press), cùng các tạp chí Geoforum và Progress in Environmental Geography. Ngoài ra, ông là một trong bảy thành viên được bổ nhiệm vào Hội đồng Cố vấn Nghiên cứu của Housing and Development Board (HDB) Singapore – cơ quan tư vấn cho các nghiên cứu do HDB thực hiện. Đồng thời, ông cũng là Giám đốc chương trình Thạc sĩ Khoa học, Chính sách và Quy hoạch Đô thị tại Đại học Công nghệ và Thiết kế Singapore (SUTD).

Tại Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (LKYCIC), Harvey dẫn dắt chương trình “Cities and Urban Science” tập trung vào Đông Nam Á, nghiên cứu cách tiếp cận khoa học đô thị lấy người dân làm trung tâm kết hợp với dữ liệu lớn (big data). Chương trình đang được triển khai tại TP. Hồ Chí Minh, Jakarta, Manila và Phnom Penh với các chủ đề liên quan đến khả năng đi bộ trong đô thị và chính sách xe điện. Harvey cũng là Trưởng chương trình “Urban Environmental Sustainability” tại LKYCIC, nơi ông là Chủ nhiệm dự án nghiên cứu do Hội đồng Nghiên cứu Khoa học Xã hội tài trợ về thích ứng của con người với nhiệt đô thị. Bên cạnh đó, ông đồng dẫn dắt cùng Tiến sĩ Samuel Chng chương trình “Future Ready Society Knowledge Partnership and Impact Fund” (FRS) do Tote Board hỗ trợ – sáng kiến đầu tiên tại Singapore kết nối nghiên cứu với thực tiễn và thúc đẩy hợp tác giữa mô hình 3P+ (People, Public, Private + Academia) nhằm nâng cao khả năng sẵn sàng của xã hội cho tương lai thông qua các giải pháp đổi mới.
