GREEN-X Accompanies Phu Quoc on The Journey Toward Green Tourism

June 19, 2026

On June 19, 2026, VinUni Smart Green Transformation Center (GREEN-X), in collaboration with the Phu Quoc Special Zone People’s Committee, organized a seminar to introduce the An Giang – Phu Quoc Green Tourism Standards. The event brought together more than 100 participants from government agencies, tourism associations, universities, research institutes, and the local tourism business community.

The seminar was attended by Assoc. Prof. Thuc-Anh Phan, Executive Director of GREEN-X; Prof. Edmund Malesky, Scientific Director of GREEN-X; and representatives of Phu Quoc – An Giang, including Mr. Tran Minh Khoa, Provincial Party Committee Member and Chairman of the Phu Quoc Special Zone People’s Committee, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairwoman of the Phu Quoc Special Zone People’s Committee.

During the seminar, GREEN-X experts introduced the Green Tourism Standards, shared directions for sustainable tourism development in the locality, and provided guidance on using the digital platform for registering and assessing the Green Tourism Label. Participants also exchanged ideas and provided feedback on policy measures to support the green transformation of the tourism sector, helping ensure that the proposed solutions are practical and aligned with the needs of local businesses.

The Green Tourism Standards were developed to support tourism businesses in reviewing, evaluating, and improving the effectiveness of their green transformation practices. At the same time, the standards provide local authorities with a practical tool to monitor, assess, and promote sustainable tourism development. The Green Tourism Standards system consists of three main components: assessment criteria for accommodation establishments and tourist attractions; a handbook guiding green transformation practices; and a digital platform supporting online management, registration, and assessment. The standards were previously developed and implemented by GREEN-X in Khanh Hoa Province. Building on this foundation, they have been further expanded and adapted to fit the tourism development context of An Giang – Phu Quoc.

The implementation of the Green Tourism Standards in Phu Quoc contributes to accelerating green transformation in the tourism sector, enhancing business competitiveness, aligning local practices with sustainable development standards, and creating greater value for Phu Quoc Island.
